How is Glass Installed in Cabinet Doors?
ExpiredA lot of people love glass cabinets in the kitchen. They’re usually made of tempered glass, which is heat-treated to be stronger than regular glass, as well as anti-glare and stainproof. It’s a great way to give your kitchen, dining room, or bathroom a whole new look. Glass is so versatile you can use it to create a vintage feeling or a luscious, ultra-modern presentation. Installing the glass is a little more complicated.
For home renovation experts and DIY folks: you may decide you’re feeling confident enough to try and install the glass yourself. The good news is, if you know what you’re doing, it’s totally possible. If you’re not sure, you can always call in an expert team and have them do it for you. It’s not as expensive as you’d think! And you’ll have the extra assurance of quality - so if you’re worried about your glass cabinets shattering or breaking, you’re better off hiring someone.
Installing Glass Cabinets
To install glass cabinets yourself, you’ll need to get the glass pieces. You can call a local glass shop and choose from different designs, etchings, and patterns. Make sure you’re using high-quality glass that will last a long time. When you order the glass, you’ll need exact measurements.
Once it is delivered, you can install the glass with silicone, putty, caulk, or glass clips as an adhesive. First, remove the cabinet doors and lay them flat on the floor. Line up the glass and make sure it will fit correctly. You’ll need a glass cutter and straight edge if your glass isn’t the right size. Run the adhesive around the edges and put the glass in, wiping away excess adhesive as you go. You’ll have to give the silicone or putty adhesive a few hours to set up before you hang the cabinet doors back up.
If you have wood cabinet doors, you’ll need a tool that will allow you to make cuts in the wood (so that you can replace it with glass panels). Or, you can order cabinet frames that have space for glass installation beforehand.
Should You Install Glass Cabinets On Your Own?
Of course, it’s easier said than done! Installing glass is a process so unless you’re an expert and have done this type of project before, you may want to call in the professionals. There are so many ways this can go wrong as a home project that can end in injury. Professionally installed glass also lasts longer. Proper placement ensures that the glass won’t shatter or fall out easily. That being said, if you’re feeling confident about your handy skills, this is a day long project that can totally transform your space.

After an extensive search to have installed mirrors in our gym in the Northern Neck area for a glass company we found More Than Glass. From the time I introduced myself to the final installation, their team of experts were professional, responsive, timely, precise and just overall impressive. I’m quite picky about who I hire for expert services and I would 200% recommend More than Glass for your glass and mirror requirements. We will clearly use them again for any future needs.

I Refer More Than Glass
I bought a large piece of glass (4'x9') to cover our kitchen table. They offered options for the edge and corners and had my glass ready in a couple of days. I picked it up and they helped me load it in my vehicle. Whenever someone asks where we got the glass, I refer them to More Than Glass. Very happy with the product and service.
